Pets at home are well known amongst animal lovers for poor breeding and living conditions for all of the pets they sell in store. Pets are often sick when purchased and require a lifetime of veterinary care once they are in their owners care. Animals sold by Pets at home are frequently kept in unsuitable conditions, in spaces and enclosures unsuited to their needs without proper handling or interaction. Animals on sale at Pets at Home appear distressed/depressed or desperate. I have seen five male rats in one of their stores crammed into a space too small for a hamster with nowhere to shield themselves from the bright fluorescent lighting above and virtually no room to move, I have seen the same five rats again one month later all with dull coats, in the same cage with nothing to climb on and nothing to do. These animals are damaged by the time they are purchased. I feel in this day and age we have evolved beyond keeping animals in small cages waiting to be purchased by literally 'anyone'. There are plenty of reputable breeders out there who do care about their animals and anyone serious about investing in the future comfort of their preferred pet of choice I'm sure would be happy to buy from registered breeders so as to safeguard the wellbeing of all animals being sold as pets in the UK. Pets at Home make plenty of money selling pet supplies and offering veterinary care - the sale of animals in their stores needs to be stopped once and for all.
