Trudeau: Honour Canada's Commitment to International Aid

Justin Trudeau is doing a great job mimicking his predecessor, Stephen Harper, when it comes to international aid commitments. The UN has a asked developed countries to commit 0.7 of their Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to international aid, for such things as funding the fight against HIV in Africa. Trudeau has recently, publicly stated that he has no intentions of Canada meeting this target this year or the next.

Right now Canada is contributing a fraction of that goal, only .28 of the GDP to international aid. While Trudeau argues that Canada's economy is not strong enough to support that aid, other countries, with more debt load, such as the UK, are stepping up to the challenge. It is a lack of political will on the part of Trudeau that prevents Canada from meeting the UN's targets.

By not meeting the UN's international aid targets millions of people suffer. From the HIV epidemic to refugee crises, millions of people live in situations which could be preventable given enough aid from developed countries.

Sign now to support Canada being a leader in international aid. By signing today you are showing Trudeau that humanitarian concerns must come before economic concerns.

To the Right Honourable Justin Trudeau,

As a person who is greatly concerned with the discrepancies of resources in the world I call on you to lead Canada in meeting the UN's interational aid goal of 0.7 of the GDP.

Canada does not lack the funds but the political will. Other countries in similar economic hardship are committing to the target, such as the UK and Canada must meet those targets as well.

People are dying because of lack of aid and it is a travesty to Canada's international reputation to ignore those in need.

I call on you to immediately commit to the UN's international aid targets and help those less fortunate in the global community.
