Demand that Corona Creek Elementary Practice Emergency Preparedness Drills as Required in ED CODE (online petition in addition to a paper petition with over 175 signatures)

To the Waugh School Board of Trustees,

We, the parents of students at Corona Creek and community members, have found that our children's safety is being compromised by our school administration. We have found that emergency preparedness drills have not been conducted at all during the 2017-18 school year. We are concerned that the Corona Creek principal and superintendent wrote a letter to parents claiming that these drills have taken place, when in fact they have not. We are concerned that when asked for a school safety plan, our administration staff was unable to provide this document to parents as is required by California Law.

We, the parents of students at Corona Creek and community members, demand that the Waugh School Board of Trustees take action to rectify the serious negligence to provide students and staff with the proper training.

1. We want the School Safety Plan to made available to parents immediately as required in California Education Code (http://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billCompareClient.xhtml?bill_id=201320140SB634 )

2. We also demand that the school participate in emergency preparedness drills as required by California Education Code. Ed Code clearly requires elementary schools to hold monthly fire drills, quarterly drop drills (earthquake drills), and yearly shelter in place drills. These drills are vital for preparing our children and staff to know how to protect themselves in an emergency situation. These drills also allow our students to develop relationships with first responders which will help them know who they can trust and rely on in case of an emergency. 3. We demand an explanation from the school board, explaining why this oversight has happened. We want an explanation for why our superintendent, under the supervision of the Waugh School Board of Trustees, would be negligent with the basic safety needs of our children.

4.We demand that the Waugh School Board of Trustees take meaningful action regarding the false letter that was sent home to parents, signed by Rebecca Rosales, claiming that drills have taken place, when in fact they have not.
