After 13 years of war and a devastated economy, the American people need a foreign policy that focuses on diplomacy, not military intervention. Similar to the case of Iraq where we were misled into a tragic war, we are going down the same dangerous path by accusing Iran of developing nuclear weapons.
The U.S. and Iran are in the middle of historic negotiations to end the nuclear standoff and reach a final peace treaty. But this effort is under threat by anti-diplomacy, pro-war forces who are determined to sabotage the diplomatic efforts and put the US back on the road to war with Iran.
A vote on new sanctions violated terms of an interim agreement in which Iran halted its nuclear program in exchange for some relief from existing sanctions and kill the diplomatic options leaving war with Iran as the only viable alternative.
Showing strong and unequivocal support for peace and diplomacy is critical at this moment. Senator Menendez is speeding his efforts to get a new sanctions bill passed and rumor on Capital Hiss is that because he’s gotten a few Democrats to join him as co-sponsors him he’s aiming to bring his disastrous Iran sanctions bill for a committee vote next Thursday.
That means that YOU need to call your Senator and urge him to support diplomacy and peace not sanctions and war. Will you take two minutes to call your senator?
