Demand for a Supermarket to be put in the Richmond Food Desert.

Richmond has been labeled as one of the largest Food Deserts in America. Food Deserts are areas in cities that have no readable source of nutritious foods due to a lack of supermarkets in that area. These areas are generally those of poverty. The people within the Food Desert generally don't have to kind of money to buy nutritious foods, so the supermarkets don't see that area as profitable. The problem with this is people inside the Food Desert are forced to eat foods that are cheap and generally not good for them. This causes the obesity and mortality rates due to obesity to rise in these areas. Our goal is to petition to the local Richmond Government to place some type of supermarket inside the Food Desert. This will give people better access to more nutritious food. Also, we would like for the local government to provide some of these people with "discounts" for buying more nutritious foods. The more incentive people have to buy nutritious food, the more likely they will be to buy them.
