JUSTICE FOR REMINGTON, PUPPY SHOT DEAD BY NEIGHBOR IN STREET

  • by: Bob Wannberg

Remington, a 6 month old puppy Labrador was shot dead in the street by his owners' neighbor on September 11, 2016 in Victorville, California.

The neighbor claims he heard barking outside and saw his mother trimming plants. The mother claims she heard barking and saw the puppy, who had got out of his yard. Remington had never gotten loose before and it is a mystery how the gate was opened.

The mother threw rocks at Remington who then retreated at least 20 feet away in the street according to witness reports. The neighbor then came out wearing a security-type uniform with a 45 caliber handgun and shot Remington

Police reports allege the neighbor admitted when he shot his gun he was not able to see well because he was blinded by the sun. He claims he saw some dogs and fired in their direction. It is clear that Remington was executed, there was no threat to anyone. Further, shooting blindly into the sun is extremely dangerous and reckless. A child could have easily been hit.

The evidence documented by Remington's owner clearly indicates the puppy was out in the street and NOT on nor near the neighbor's property. A witness states he heard a shot, immediately turned around and saw the neighbor standing at the end of his driveway with the gun pointed at the dog. The witness stated he never saw Remington act aggressively or saw the dog on the neighbor's property. He never heard the neighbor or his mother yell for help or saw them indicate any fear for their safety. Remington was harassed by having rocks thrown at him. He did not deserve to die. The puppy was found severely bleeding by its owner who rushed it to the hospital; there was nothing that could be done to save his life.

WE RESPECTFULLY DEMAND JUSTICE FOR THE PUPPY REMINGTON AND THAT THE SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY SHERIFF PURSUE CRIMINAL CHARGES AGAINST THE NEIGHBOR FOR FELONY ANIMAL CRUELTY, RECKLESS DISCHARGE OF A FIREARM AND THAT THE SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY REVIEW AND FILE CRIMINAL CHARGES.

Dear Referenced Law Enforcement Officials:

The killing of the puppy "Remington" shot dead in the streets of Victorville, Ca. warrant criminal filing based on the totality of the evidence. The shooting was not necessary, not done in protection of life nor serious injury and the documenation and statements in actuality support that. A dog barking at someone 20' away that just had rocks thrown at them is not a justifiable shooting. Further, the person shooting the dog with his 45 caliber hand gun told the responding officer he shot directly into the sun and could not specifically see what he was shooting at; this was a dangerous and reckless act and therefore a violation of the California Penal Code. Anyone could have been hit, even a child if nearby. This statement was made to the responding Officer by Justin Petty. The Officer told the puppies owner that Justin Petty told him that.

Paramount to this crime, the evidence that the mother who was gardening at the time of the shooting just continued gardening. How was she then threatened by this puppy at the time of his execution?  The blood trails all document via photographic evidence and taken by the puppy's owner dictate that this puppy was not on Petty's property but was shot dead in the middle of the street. The police report states Petty went all the way to the end of his driveway and then shot the dog. The evidence indicates clearly Petty pursued this dog to his death. The evidence supports the puppy was obviously fleeing after rocks were thrown at it. This makes sense and is a reasonable conclusion. A witness neighbor across the street confirms this. The forensic evidence supports this.

California has some of the most progressive animal protection laws in the Country. We ask that you please apply them and that the totality of the evidence support probable cause that Petty in his actions violated crimes enacted to protect animals and the Citizens of San Bernadino County and people everywhere. . Puppies are companion animals and deemed family by thousands of people. They deserve protection from this type of reckless and dangerous activity. The public has a right to protection from people shooting off firearms in a reckless and dangerous manner.

The signers of this petition agree. Any reasonable person knowing the totality of the actions in this case should agree. The evidence supports clearly Justin Petty should be charged with Animal Cruelty and at the minimum, discharge of his firearm in a dangerous and reckless manner. We submit our case to you. Please act and enforce any and all applicable laws in this case. Do not drop this case. This animal deserves justice as a sentient being and so do the citizens and voters of San Bernardino County and specifically Victorville, California. The puppies owners deserve justice. "Remington" sufferred a painful and horrific death, all unjustified. It was not necessary to execute this puppy.

Respectfully,

A letter has just been posted to Law Enforcement Officials in that particular section of the Petition. Once the petition is pulled in the future that letter will be sent to those Officials with the Petition itself. I wanted to let you know this has been added to the petition as an addendum and hope you agree. Thank you once again for fighting for justice for abused and tortured animals.
