The number of pet dogs needlessly shoy by police is astounding!! Police Officers need better dog behavior training, and consequences must follow these needless shootings!!

Last Wednesday, a man's black Labrador retriever was shot and killed in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, by a police officer who claimed that the dog lunged at him. The dog however, was inside the owner's parked car!!! So what threat was there?

The two-year-old dog, named "Arfie," was inside of Craig Jones' van- Jones was nearby having breakfast at a restaurant. While Jones was away, a business owner called the police to investigate Jones' van, which they feared might belong to a suspect in another crime.

The responding officer approached the van with his gun drawn and Arfie barked at him through the cracked window on the driver's side of the vehicle. Coeur d’Alene Police Department officials have stated that the officer described a viciousdog  lunging through the window and trying to attack.

He was behind a window !!! Inside his car! Even a teacup poodle could get territorial.

Arfie's protective instinct resulted in a fatal gunshot wound which claimed his life - the dog's owner is stunned about what happened.

Jones acknowledged that Arfie would bark at anyone who approached the van - he stated:

If my dog is barking and wondering who's peering through the windows he doesn't care if you're a cop, an attorney, or the President. He doesn't know any difference.

Arfie may have barked when the stranger, in this case a police officer, walked up to peer into the window, but his owner stated that the dog did not have a mean bone in his body.

This type is senseless shooting is not acceptable. The Police Oficer needs to face the consequences of his reckless actions ! The max the law allows- there was no danger to him !
