We want Cherokee County School District recognized as 100% Tobacco-Free!

The Cherokee County School District has a very comprehensive tobacco-free policy for students and the district operates as a 100% tobacco-free zone. However, because of wording in the current policy that does not specify the ban of tobacco products and e-cigarettes for staff and visitors (even though staff and visitors are discouraged from tobacco use on school campuses and at school events), the Georgia Department of Public Health does not recognize Cherokee County Schools as one of the 101 school districts in the state that are now Georgia Model 100% Tobacco-Free School Districts.

Now that more than half of the 181 school districts in Georgia are recognized as Model 100% Tobacco-Free Schools, and because tobacco usage and secondhand smoke are dangerous health hazards, the Cherokee Youth Council, with the support of Cherokee Focus and the North Georgia Health District, ask that you please sign this petition and let your voice be heard that you, too, want the Cherokee County School District Board of Education to adopt a Georgia Model 100% Tobacco-Free Schools Policy.
