Animal-Blood-Money Part A

Part A of this petition is a governmental enquiry into the subject of South African live animal export.

Dear Tina Monica Joemat-Pettersson & representatives of the South African Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.

Please can you release the following figures for publication in the South African print press before 30 June 2014.

Please publish these figures in all 11 official South African languages.

  • The exact species of live animals that South Africa exported between 1 January 2013 – 31 December 2013.
  • The exact number of each species that South Africa exported between 1 January 2013 – 31 December 2013.
  • The exact mode of transport that each species travelled with during export out of South Africa between 1 January 2013 – 31 December 2013.
  • The exact geographical destination of each species exported from South Africa to these regions between 1 January 2013 – 31 December 2013.
  • The exact duration of transport per species to each destination outside of South Africa between 1 January 2013 – 31 December 2013.
  • The exact number of fatalities of each species prior to reaching their destination abroad between 1 January 2013 – December 2013.

Animal-Blood-Money Part B

Part B of this petition is to invite consumers to surrender themselves to a higher consciousness around the subject of live animal export.

Not nearly enough humans are aware of & conscious of, let alone understand the implications of the live animal import & export trade. For the most part, many people are completely unaware that ‘live animal export’ even exists. This global phenomenon is receiving an increasing media attention, placing Australia & The Middle East in particular under scrutiny. This media does not however reach enough people from enough walks of life.

Live animal export is a global, complicated, and messy network of animal-blood-money changing hands. The psychological, social & environmental repercussions remain unknown.

This petition will not be able to stop the cruel & unnecessary practices of the live animal import & export trade, but can create national awareness amongst South African consumers by educating people about these practices & subsequently pose the question about the journey that the food on their own plates took before consuming it...
