Support Protections for Pacific Wolves

Pacific Wolf recovery is just beginning. But wolves may lose their federal protections, making recovery of wolves in western Washington, Oregon and California much more difficult. Because wolves have recovered in states such as Idaho, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is considering dropping federal protections for the entire species. Tell them that the job is not done - we need to maintain federal protections for wolves and create a Pacific Wolf Recovery Zone.

You might remember OR-7 (or Journey), the iconic wolf who traveled over 1,000 miles from eastern Oregon to northern California to become the state’s first wolf in over 80 years. Without federal protections, and no certainty of state protections, Journey may have a target on his back. Please sign the petition and share it with your friends. Encourage the Obama administration to keep protections for wolves before it is too late.

Dear Director Ashe,

Please allow wolf recovery in western Washington, Oregon and California by maintaining federal wolf protections in this important area. Wolves are just now beginning to return to the Pacific States. Wolves need U.S. Fish and Wildlife protections in place for a successful recovery, or they could be hunted for sport or out of fear and never allowed to return.

There is ample evidence that wolves were once a part of the landscape throughout Washington, Oregon and California. Scientists have mapped large areas of unoccupied, yet suitable wolf habitat.  The wolf is an important species that contributes to ecosystem health. But we need your help to ensure that wolves can make it back to these areas they once inhabited.

Please commit to wolf recovery and get the job done in the Pacific States. The path to wolf recovery is supported by a substantial body of scientific literature, wildlife scientists working the field and a large sector of the United States public committed to gray wolf conservation.

Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
