Demand that Liberty University Rescind Commencement Invite to Donald Trump

Compassion. A pretty straight forward concept. It doesn't take a theology degree to know that it is the center piece of the Christian message. It is absurd that we need to argue how Trump's exclusionary nationalism and Christianity are contradictory.

Sexual Assault: Not compassionate

Religious discrimination towards a population facing historic and unprecedented levels of displacement: Not compassionate

Scapegoating minorities: Not compassionate

Inciting hate and violence with your language: Not compassionate

These are the trademarks of Trumpism. Despite its apparent lack of compassion, Evangelicals are flocking to this brash nationalism for the vindication of their cultural identity. This isn't more clearly seen than with the political alliance of Donald Trump and Liberty University. This unholy matrimony is the epitome of religious hypocrisy.

Imagine that after graduation you want to work for a non-profit that assists with refugee resettlement. Liberty University's staunch political leanings, which turns a blind eye to the unprecedented impropriety of the current administration, creates an increasingly isolated job market for recent grads looking to work in the private and not-for-profit sectors. As Alumni, we are often forced to awkwardly defend our association with Liberty at an increasing rate. Every attempt from Jerry Falwell to associate Liberty University with Donald Trump does irreparable harm to our reputation as Christians and job-seekers.

This petition gives us a voice, a counterweight to Jerry's attempt to brand the school as a haven for Trumpism. If you can relate to the burden of telling your new acquaintances, coworkers, etc. that you went to Liberty University, then sign this petition.

Protesting Trump's commencement address is the perfect opportunity to stand with immigrants, women, and minorities that are threatened by the broad evangelic coalition propagating the Trump agenda.

Update #27 years ago
Hey gang,

We are putting together a compilation video of fellow Liberty students and alumni that are upset about Liberty's support of Trump. If you are interested, email me at gilberth3143@gmail.com.

Thanks again for the support!

I want to thank you all for your courage. In the words of Albus Dumbledore, “It takes a great deal of courage to stand up to your enemies, but a great deal more to stand up to your friends.” We are all exhausted from standing up to our friends at LU. If we really want to leave an impact, we need to show each other that we are not alone.
Share your dissent.
Use the hashtag #LUexpats as a way to update and connect other Liberty Alumni that want to stand up to oppressive populism.
