SAVE CHILDREN'S SERVICES AT THE ROYAL GWENT HOSPITAL NEWPORT

According to a recent report in the South Wales Argus,Children's Services at the Royal Gwent Hospital Newport or Nevill Hall Hospital in Abergavenny could  be lost due to staffing problems leaving parents with a journey of 20miles and more to the nearest site that provides this service possibly on a daily basis. According to the report, the Health Board says that this would be a temporary measure until the Specialist Critical Care Centre earmarked for Llanfrechfa near Cwmbran is built. This may be at least five years away.A more recent report in the ARGUS states that the building of the SCCC is now a subject of a Welsh Government review and that there remains no indication of when a decision will come or what it might be. The Health Board is still stating that paediatric inpatient care could be based at one existing hospital instead of two.Parents without their own transport could have to wait hours for an ambulance. What could happen to their child in the meantime does not bear thinking about. We demand that the Health Board pay a decent wage to the front-line staff who work extremely hard in very difficult circumstances as this may help to resolve the under-staffing crisis that is behind this. Please sign and share this petition which can also be accessed on Twitter.
