Help a young teen actually SEE the world

A simple juicy strawberry, a stop sign, beautiful autumn leaves, a big red apple, a can of Coca~Cola, red traffic lights, and sunsets are all things that we see in our daily lives, as a rich, vibrant, red or orange. Unfortunately, this is not the case for one young girl.

A teenager in the eighth grade (who has asked to remain anonymous) does not see the world in the same way that we do. To her, the shimmering sunsets, oranges (fruit or the color), and even her own skin tone all appear in shades of grey or black. This girl has Protanopia.

Protanopia is a type of colorblindness. According to the National Eye Institute (NEI), Protanopia is an eye deficiency where the patient canot see the color red, or colors that have red in them. For example, red looks black to her and colors like orange and even her tanned fair skin look grey to her. The National Eye Institute also says that tasks done in daily lives such as driving with traffic lights or being able to see an indicator on a car pose challenges later on in life. Luckily, there is a solution.

A company called EnChroma Inc makes glasses that fix Protanopia. However, for a group of 8th graders, these glasses are expensive and we don't have the financial standings to get them for her. So, we are calling on you to help us. These glasses will change her life and donating or just spreading the word would mean the world to us. We want this girl to be able to see how beautiful and vibrant the world is, which could just mean a few dollars from each of you.

With or without color, all we really need is to be able to enjoy the world. This place maybe riddled with dangers and frustrations, but at least it also has its bright side.

Those who are really color blind are those who never see that bright side. This is our opportunity to show this teen the happy side and let her enjoy her life to the full, which can't be done if the world is grey.

We deeply appreciate your support and you taking the time to hear our story.
