Murray Energy chairman and CEO Robert E. Murray says that the re-election of US President Barack Obama has forced him to lay off 156 workers.
A professing Christian, Mr. Murray is using the Bible to justify bullying behaviour that seems motivated solely by his opposition to Mr. Obama's energy policies.
According to stories published in The New Republic, the Washington Post and elsewhere, Murray forced some of his employees to attend a Romney campaign event during the recently concluded American presidential contest.
And his apparent antipathy for Mr. Obama seems to be preventing him from seeing what energy industry experts believe is the inevitable decline of the coal industry, because of the development of natural gas and other energy sources.
I believe Christian leaders have a duty to denounce the kind of thinly veiled religious-political bullying that Mr. Murray is indulging in.
I appeal to those Christian leaders named here and others around the world to publicly denounce Mr. Murray's "Talibank thinking".
