Demand Support From The U.S. Towards Food Aid For Starvation Victims In Syria

UPDATE: The victims of Madaya have recieved over 44 trucks worth of food by organizations like the World Food Programme and the Red Cross to combat starvation, but we can't stop there. Anti-govt forces in Syria have been with-holding the food supply to besieged Syrian villages, and aid from outside their country is their only resource for food. It still remains imperative that the United States provides additonal assistance towards food aid for these people, as their resources are low and there is still many malnurioushed people suffering from the long lack of food.

It's no question that the recent attacks from ISIS have stirred up a heavy amount of xenophobic attitudes around the world derived from fear. Many countries are choosing to avoid association with the Middle East, including the United States. A village in Syria known as Madaya has been suffering from starvation for over 6 months after being besieged by Syrian government forces. Thousands of people (around 40,000) are living in Madaya, a total of 400,000 people are living in besieged areas in Syria. Many are living on nothing but water and essential salts, scavenging for leaves, grass, and insects for nutrition. Since December 1st, two months after food aid had been stopped in Madaya, 23 people have died from starvation, 6 being infants under a year old. These villages are surrounded by land mines placed by the Assad regime, ISIS, and various rebel groups, trapping starvation victims. With winter coming, these people are desperately calling out for help. Urge the United States to stand up to ISIS and not turn away from fear as thousands of innocent people die from starvation in Syria.

As a country with the capability to use their resources to help others, as well as a country that possesses the ability to make positive influences on the rest of the world, it is the United States responsibility to support food aid for those who have nothing more than a voice to cry out with. With the responsible and moral actions of one country, there is hope to spread influence to the rest of the world towards the support of food aid to those starving in Syria.
