Urge Texas To Stop Denying Birth Certificates To Babies Born On U. S. Soil!

Immigrants had previously been able to use a "matricula consular", a form of identification that is recognized in their own home countries.  Such an ID was a requirement for acquiring a birth certificate for their children born in the United States.  Now officials are declining to accept the "matricula consular" as previously agreed upon.  If these children do not get their birth certificates and citizenship, they will be denied education and healthcare, which is so unfair for these youngsters.

Texas is denying this privilege to its U.S. born children of immigrant parents, despite meeting all requirements.  Many of the parents are outraged and filing a lawsuit against the Texas Department of State Health Services.  Information on the suit can be viewed at http://talkingpointsmemo.com/news/texas-immigrants-birth-certificates. The 14th amendment clearly states that people born in the U.S. are citizens and should be provided birth certificates. Texas is acting with the intent that if the parents are immigrants, the U. S. born offspring are deprived of their rights as other citizen children.

Help us to get these children the rights they deserve and are born with; citizenship and a birth certificate as such.  You can help us in this effort by signing and sharing this petition. We need to stand up for these children and their rights when born in our country.

Kirk Cole, Unit Commissioner, Texas Department of State Health Service's Vital Statistics – We urge you to stop denying birth certificates to babies born on U. S. soil. These children are no different than those that have parents who are citizens of our great country.  The 14th amendment clearly states that people born in the U.S. are citizens and should be provided birth certificates. Don’t deny these children their rights as U.S. born citizens; provide them their birth certificates and citizenship they deserve.
