Immigrants had previously been able to use a "matricula consular", a form of identification that is recognized in their own home countries. Such an ID was a requirement for acquiring a birth certificate for their children born in the United States. Now officials are declining to accept the "matricula consular" as previously agreed upon. If these children do not get their birth certificates and citizenship, they will be denied education and healthcare, which is so unfair for these youngsters.
Texas is denying this privilege to its U.S. born children of immigrant parents, despite meeting all requirements. Many of the parents are outraged and filing a lawsuit against the Texas Department of State Health Services. The 14th amendment clearly states that people born in the U.S. are citizens and should be provided birth certificates. Texas is acting with the intent that if the parents are immigrants, the U. S. born offspring are deprived of their rights as other citizen children.
