URGENT: PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION TO RESTORE ROHINGYA RIGHTS

  • by: Abdallah Ddumba
  • recipient: The United States & the International Community

We call on the US government to declare that Burma will never be a true democracy so long as it has stripped the Rohingya of their full citizenship rights.

Background: In February 2015, the Burmese government stripped the right to vote from roughly 1 million of its people, mostly ethnic Rohingya. The Rohingya are victims of severe human rights violation at the hands of the Burmese government.

But the international community, including the US government, continues to praise the upcoming Burmese election as a critical moment in Burma’s transition to democracy. Instead, the US and the international community must demand that the Burmese government immediately restore Rohingya citizenship and voting rights.

The international community and US should not be satisfied with a sham, with cruel illusion of democracy, as that would damage the cause of democracy everywhere.

Burma task Force-USA

With greetings of Peace,

On behalf of Burma Task Force - USA, I am extending our sincere appreciation of your moral support. We exceeded our original goal and you definitely made a difference. At BTF- USA, we are hopeful that we can continue to rely on you. As you may know, BTF's commitment is to deal with the root cause of the Rohingya issue, that is, to stop the Rohinyga persecution, restore their citizenship, and guarantee them equal rights as required by international law. We have registered the following successes:

  •         Passage of Resolution 418 in the US Congress asking the Govt. of Myanmar to ensure equal rights for minorities including the Rohingya.

  •         President Obama talking of rights for the Rohingya during his visit to Myanmar.

  •         Co-sponsorship of academic conferences at the London School of Economics and Harvard University with collaborations with many academicians and,

  •         Conference at the Nobel Institute in Oslo, where seven Peace Laureates called on the world to recognize the Rohingya persecution as Genocide.

I am personally hopeful and convinced that as long as we continue our advocacy for the Rohingya, together we shall restore their rights for them, God willing.

Rohingya stranded at sea, denied entrance/clearance. Not accepted as refugees by neighboring countries i.e Thailand - Indonesia - Malaysia. As a result, starvation to death due to lack of food and medicine. In the first place, they shouldn't leave their country to die in the waters or in jungles. Your signatures will help them stop fleeing their motherland. You did a great job! Our first goal will be met soon as you you can see responses. Please share and spread.

Thank you for signing the petition! You've advocated for the rights of one ethnic minority group (Rohingya) which is being persecuted for decades. You will save stranded lives at the sea and you're promoting justice for all. Please sign and continue spreading the word to pressure the Burmese/ Myanmar government to respect its people, accept them as Burmese citizens and allow them the opportunity to participate in the November 2015 elections
