It has been decided that the Pontiac Phoenix Center in downtown Pontiac is to be demolished. The plans are to knock down the existing structure and place a flat paid parking lot in its place.
The Pontiac Phoenix Center is the heart of Pontiac. It has brought us all together as a united community. If the Phoenix Center is knocked down, this wil only be a reminder of what Pontiac use to be and what it will never be again. However, if we all band together to save it and stop them from demolishing the building then we Pontiac and we as community may have a hope and a future.
I do not believe that the plans to demolish the structure has been fully and responsibly viewed before this decision was made. If the building is tore down and not utilized for its intended purposes there will virtually be no more reasons why anyone would want to come visit Pontiac. The money that was made at previous events was given back to the CIty of Pontiac, therefore if we take this away there won't be any other way to raise money for the City to put back into our community, other than potentially higher taxes. If the City uses the buildings for its orginial purpose then that is money that could be raised and placed into the community to take care of our homeless, our streets and the abandoned houses and much much more.
In addition, the Phoenix Center was initial built and paid for by the tax dollars of citizerns of Pontiac, therefore I believe that it should be the citizens who make this decision and not a couple of city officials.
I plead each and everyone of you to band together and save Pontiac....taking the first step of saving the Phoenix Center from being demolished. Secondly for the city officials to begin hosting events at the Phoenix center that would bring money and people back to OUR city.
Saving the Phoenix Center and bringing it back to its true purpose may be what we need to bring Pontiac back to life.
