The Ridgewood Baseball and Softball Association (RBSA) is asking for your support and your signature on this online petition, which seeks approval from the Village Council of Ridgewood for the recommendation of the Open Space Committee to create a full sized baseball field at the Schedler property in Ridgewood, NJ. The Schedler property is a Village-owned, 7-acre property off Route 17 north, at the West Saddle River Road exit. The historic Schedler property is named for former owner Florence Schedler and was purchased by the Village in 2009 for $2.7 million with money from an open-space tax and a $1.57 million grant in accordance with the recommendation of the Open Space Committee.
Since the purchase of the property, the Ridgewood Open Space Committee, following three open public forums, recommended to the Ridgewood Village Council that the Schedler property be developed to include a walking trail, preservation of the Schedler-Zabriskie House, a playground, wooded areas, and a full sized baseball field. RBSA supports the entire Open Space Committee recommendation.
RBSA has created this online petition to present to the Ridgewood Village Council seeking its approval for a baseball field at the Schedler property. The field would be used by the Ridgewood High School baseball teams and the two RBSA leagues for older children who play on a full size baseball field. The RHS varsity baseball season runs from April until June annually. RBSA usage would extend into late July annually.
This new baseball field is needed at this new location because a full size baseball field was lost to Ridgewood when the two baseball fields at BF Middle School were replaced by a track and field venue. Since that time, the track facility has been an enormous success, which is great for Ridgewood and great for the student athletics of Ridgewood. However, because the baseball field has not been replaced playing fields for Ridgewood baseball players, including the high school teams, is limited. Please sign this petition and help us restore a much needed full sized field in our village.
