North Dakota: No Parental Rights for Rapists!

Most states have laws that protect mothers from rapists seeking custody or visitation rights of children conceived through sexual assault. North Dakota is one of the 17 remaining states that does not offer these protections.

Every year, 17,000 to 32,000 pregnancies occur as a result of rape. According to the Rape Survivors Child Custody Act, 73 percent of these women carry their children to term, and 64 percent of them raise the children. North Dakota allows rapists to further traumatize these mothers by involving them in financially and emotionally stressful legal battles.

Rape survivors have already faced the trauma of rape. North Dakota needs laws in place to protect women from any further contact with their rapists, including having their children be in contact with them. Please sign the petition to urge North Dakota's legislators to pass laws preventing rapists from seeking custody or visitation rights of children conceived through sexual assault.

I am concerned with the lack of legislation preventing rapists from seeking custody of children conceived through their assault in North Dakota.
