Food Poisoning from Seafood ? Assault

This letter is to briefly explain the obvious negligence stemming from A. Parker’s purchase of contaminated food from a local Giant food store (#2381) located at 300 H St. NE in Washington DC.

On the date of July 11, 2014, Mr. Parker purchased shrimp from the store.  As he consumed the shrimp, within 2 to 3 hours, He became deathly ill.  After an all night bout with a painfully upset stomach, dehydration, diarrhea, swelling of the face and throat and eventual hospitalization @ George Washington University Hospital, He returned to the store on July 15, 2014 at 8:00 pm where the food was purchased and attempted to speak with the manager on duty. The manager was not in the store and he eventually spoke with an employee who was identified as the Tori Holmes, Assistant Manager.

Prior to speaking with Tori Holmes, Mr. Parker spoke with Mr. Trevor, Seafood Manager who informed Mr. Parker that he has nothing to do with his illness, he doesn’t care and it’s out of his hands.  Mr. Trevor also used profanity with Mr. Parker.  While speaking with the employee Tori Holmes, his conversation soon became hostile due to very negative conversation. This employee belittled Mr. Parker after she learned of his complaint by calling him a “Cock Sucker,” “Fagot,” and soon spat in his face, literally!  After using strong profanity while talking to him and later spitting in his face he, in turn, called the Metropolitan Police Department and filed a formal complaint against the Giant employee. The Corporate office was also contacted along with the store’s general manager, Tim Baker for the Washington metropolitan region.

His reason for telling this story and filing his formal emergency complaint is the store tried to offer him a gift card and free groceries with no genuine concern for his welfare, health or well being.  Ted Garrett, Vice President of Giant Corporation asked that this incident not be reported to the local media or newspaper and offered him ten thousand dollars appearing to want this incident to "go away."  Giant Corporation further attempted to persuade Mr. Parker to relent to his offer by telling him how many stores they have and how long they've been in business.  Mr. Parker declined this offer and retained a lawyer to pursue further legal actions. The attorney retained has since decided that "he doesn't want to battle against Giant Corporation" and opted out of representing Mr. Parker on this case (this lawyer was released from his obligations and the incident has been sent to the American Bar Association).  Giant's CEO has been informed about the assault made by their employee as this is also being looked into as a criminal action committed by their employee.  The District of Columbia Office of Attorney General’s Consumer Protection attempted to contact Ms. Tori Holmes and was told that she was terminated when in actuality she was transferred to the Columbia Heights Giant store, where Mr. Gilbert Quarslie is the Store Manager.  He also wanted to give Mr. Parker $500 gift card and 10 bags of groceries, and send him home in a cab as long as he brings back the old shrimp, and sign a non disclosure waiver form.  The complaint for the assault was filed with the Metropolitan Police Department's First District and a copy of the police report will be included with this letter.

Mr. Parker’s reason for this letter is to help you avoid Giant Food, especially their seafood department, and to solicit your help in correcting Giant’s operating policies, especially against people of color.  Mr. Parker’s civil rights were violated according to statutes 28 USC 542.13,C, and he was assaulted by the employee of Giant, Tori Holmes, when she spat in his face.

 Thank you very kindly;

Afnan J. Parker
