Mommy, I heard that Naropa University is going to have all of us killed

  • by: P HoImes

The first Buddhist precept is no killing of any living being.

Naropa, a Buddhist "inspired" university has filed an application for the lethal removal of about 100 prairie dogs from their Nalanda Campus grounds in Boulder, Colorado.

University spokesman Mr. Bill Rigler told the Daily Camera that the school has been exploring non-lethal options of removal for at least 4 years. So why has the university filed for a permit for lethal removal of these prairie dogs and their babies?

WildLands Defense in Colorado wants to work with the university to relocate the colony onto public lands in Boulder County, allowing the prairie dogs to continue to live their lives while helping to support a functioning ecosystem.

Prairie dog colonies support rare wildlife such as burrowing owls, golden and bald eagles, ferruginous hawks, badgers and prairie falcons. Unfortunately, endangered black-footed ferrets are no longer found in Boulder County, due in part to diminshed prairie dog populations.

Let us be the voice for these prairie dogs and urge Mr Kilburn to show a gesture of goodwill by first withdrawing their lethal permit application. Then work with WildLands Defense to seek a site in the Boulder area to relocate these prairie dogs and stay true to their Buddhist inspiration. Petition Delivery Video

Prairie Dogs Jump-Yip Amazing and intelligent.

Please follow the first precept of the Buddhist faith, to not kill another living creature, and abandon your pursuit of a lethal removal permit for the prairie dog colony on your campus. Instead, redouble efforts to relocate the colony, and take advantage of assistance being offered by WildLands Defense to work with the City and County to find suitable habitat for these creatures.

WildLands Defense delivered your signatures to Naropa University & generated great media. But Naropa refuses to withdraw their request to kill the prairie dogs, while saying they don't want to kill them(!?!)

We need to hold their feet to the fire! Can you go to their Facebook page, rate them, then comment, telling them to save the prairie dogs and cancel the kill permit? THANKS! We can save these prairie dogs!
