We ask Cambridge City Council to vote for the Affordable Housing Overlay — a zoning change intended to make it easier to build 100% affordable housing projects — with no limits to its scope and effectiveness. We believe:
• Income Diversity — The Overlay will bring working and middle income residents back to our City. Cambridge shouldn't be just for the rich.
• Social Equity — The City-wide Overlay helps work to undo Cambridge's legacy of racist redlined zoning.
• Climate leadership — By allowing slightly denser homes as-of-right, the Overlay will lead to more transit-oriented development and help reduce car-dependence and pollution.
• A More Vibrant City — By building more affordable housing, we can welcome more people into Cambridge and help more stay here. Everybody gains from a more dynamic, exciting City.
