Animal Planet features many informative and educational programs about animals, but much of it is the "same old, same old". Let's request them to do more for shelters and rescues, by running shows that feature adoptable pets, document the work and expense involved in running a shelter or rescue, and perhaps something along the lines of "Extreme Shelter Makeover. Many people are unaware of what goes into operating a shelter or rescue, and don't realize the number of pets, of a wide variety of species and breeds, in need of home.
This type of programming would be a wonderful first step in increasing awareness, helping shelters/ rescues, and networking adoptable pets before killing them becomes a final alternative.
While we're at it, let's also ask them for informative documentaries on the truth of what happens on factory farms, breeding farms and the like.
