STOP TETHERING DOGS AND CATS:

  • by: Donna Matthews
  • recipient: The president and United States Senators~

Tethering is both inhumane and dangerous.
1.] Dogs and cats that are tethered are exposed to wild animals, cruel people, insects, infestations, (skin diseases, ear mites, and eye infections), and extreme weather conditions, temperatures and lack of protection.
2.] Heavy chains can cause bone deformities, and embed into their necks, and even strangle or cut off a dog or cats ability to breath; while thin tethering devices can strangle a cat or dog, and cut deeply into their skin or neck embedding its-self, may prevent a cat or dog from breathing, and this can happen anywhere on it's body if the dog or cat becomes tangled, and even result in damaged bones, infections and other problems.
3.] Tethering is cruel and animals who are tethered often are neglected, not socialized, not exercised properly, and may even be abused. Some dog and cat owners use heavy chains when planning to use their dog for dog fights. Many times a dog or cat has to sit in the hot sun, or in extremely cold weather, rainstorms where there may be hail, strong winds, and often they can not get into their shelter (if they even have a shelter, and if it is correctly constructed and insulated), and often they can not reach their food and water, which may easily spill or become dirty, or toxic with mold and algae.
Please help tethered dogs and cats everywhere and put and end to tethering.

Dear honorable President, Senators and Representatives! Please make tethering dogs and cats illegal, for it is cruel and abusive and the dogs and cats tethered suffer greatly. Not only this but some criminals tether dogs to condition them for dog fighting. That has to make you stop and think about what tethering does to both dogs and cats. So much can happen to a dog or cat when tethered that I can not explain it all in a short letter; however, it suffices to say that it ends very badly for any dog or cat tethered.

Thank you for considering my request!

Yours respectfully,

Donna C. Matthews
