Primero Conservation Save Jaguars!

Sonora, Mexico is home to the northernmost breeding population of jaguars in the world. This genetically distinct group of about 80 jaguars is the last hope for the species’ reintroduction into the US. Unfortunately, jaguars are in conflict with local ranchers because they prey on their cattle. Although poaching the endangered jaguar is technically illegal, killings are very rarely prosecuted. There have been six confirmed jaguar killings in this region in the past three years alone.
In order to save these majestic cats, GreaterGood.org is working with Primero Conservation to establish a wildlife corridor strategically located just north of the existing Northern Jaguar Reserve in Sonora. They are working with six connected and contiguous landowners who are agreeing to refrain from killing jaguar and other predators in exchange for training, supplies, and equipment to protect their cattle. By offsetting cattle deaths with these incentives, these ranchers can justify no longer killing jaguars and other predators like mountain lions, ocelots, bears. The ranchers are also agreeing to allow GreaterGood to place camera traps on their ranch to further study jaguar movement in order to provide increased protection.
Help create a 35,000 acre wildlife corridor for jaguars, ocelots, mountain lions, and more.
