  • recipient: Lisa Ward, Commissioner, Division of Parks, Recreation and Forestry Toledo, Ohio, Toledo, OH

Petition summary and background: To create a fund, as a portion of the budget for the Parks and Recreation Department, to be used for the restoration and expansion of skate parks in Toledo, OH. To further establish a board of youth residents and skaters to help oversee the fund and make recommendations to the directors of the Parks and Recreation Department.

Action Petitioned for: We, the undersigned, are concerned citizens who urge our leaders to act now to create a skate park fund in Toledo, OH

We, the undersigned citizens of Toledo, Ohio present an offer made by Lisa Ward, Commissioner of the Division of Parks, Recreation and Forestry in Toledo, Ohio to Corey Mattimore and Mark Davenport that if we get 200 signatures, Toledo is able to have a fund for the maintenance of skateparks, for purchasing of abandoned or sitting land throughout the Lucas County region.

This petition is to creatively restore Lucas county areas by building skate parks and restoring skateparks in the area by involvement of the skateboarding community. Creative projects involving the restoration of land, having Corey Mattimore and his skateboarding peers intellectually come together and identify zones which are safe, what type of materials are suitable, and taking preventive action by having authority over the materials being used.

This will minimize budget, provide the upmost professionalism in dealing with what designs fit the  budget, which will be coordinated by Corey Mattimore. By combining the experience of his skateboarding colleagues, creatively inviting the art and gardening community, and making calls on the skateboarders' perspective of utilizing areas as-is the restoration of land areas would be geared to invite neighborhood communities and promote community activities such an not limited to as:

Skateboard competitions, fundraisers, workshops, teaching events, skateboard gear donations new or used during times/zones.

Skateboarding experts locally who have the right resources and knowledge base for minimal costs can, and should have been the staple for the skateboarding community here in the Toledo-Lucas County Region.

Skateboarding has a vast community of multi-cultural appreciation, and we commit to organize our youth alongside with the City of Toledo to creatively build opportunity and institution. We are here standing up and reaching out to help give back to the community. Thank you for your support.
