Tell Oregon to Enact Legislation to Finally Abolish the Death Penalty!

Oregon once abolished capital punishment nearly half a century ago but it soon returned. Now, it looks as though the practice could finally be on the way out.

At present, state-sanctioned executions in Oregon are on pause; Gov. Brown chose to extend this moratorium last month. Since then, an incredibly in-depth new study looking at how much it costs Oregon taxpayers to sentence someone to death row has been published. It found that aggravated murder trials that resulted in death row sentences cost, on average, 250% more than those that do not.

So not only is capital punishment costly when it comes to human lives -- including those who are wrongfully convicted -- it hits taxpayers' pocket books heavily as well.

Tell Oregon's lawmakers that it is time to formally legislate the death penalty away once and for all by sharing and adding your name to this petition!
