Another incident occurred in India where a leopard was found deceased with questionable injuries. The cat was found dead near Varkod village, about 16 km from the city of Mysuru. The visible wounds were on the big cat’s hind leg and head. Officials believe the leopard died about three days prior to discovering the body and estimate it is a 3-year old animal.

Authorities believe that the animal died of unnatural causes and complaints have been filed with Mysuru district police. The thought was that the big cat got caught in a snare due to its injuries on the leg but a closer inspection and necropsy showed that there was a deep wound on its head looks like the animal was pierced with a sharp instrument. Once cause of death and examination was concurred, the leopard was immediately cremated.

This is the third incident of leopard encounters in the Mysuru within the past month or so. We are urging an investigation to determine if there was any wrongdoing involved in the death of this animal. You can help in our efforts by signing and sharing this petition.

Resources for Wildlife/Human Coexistence Along With Police Commissioner IPS Officer B. Dayananda – We are strongly urging you to look into the incident with the dead leopard to determine if there was any wrongdoing. Too many of these big cats are being injured or killed allegedly by locals and you need to prosecute anyone guilty of illegal killings. Take necessary steps to stop such killings and educate your people on how to coexist with the wildlife around them without anyone being harmed or killed.
