Facebook: Remove "Pitbull Execution Live" Event

"Watch how to kill and boil those beasts," declares the webpage for the scheduled live pitbull execution on December 12 (https://www.facebook.com/events/1488760444688559/).  Whether the event is actually going to occur or not I can't say--you know how reliable the Internet isn't--but what I am sure of is that this event on Facebook is promoting the already rampant hatred and abuse of pitbulls.  Pitbulls are not inherently more dangerous than any other large dog breed.  They are often trained to be highly aggressive by their owners, but no animal is inherently "evil."  This sort of hate and violence against pitbulls has got to stop.  The sooner we can take down pages like this, the better.

I would like to note that I am reporting this page to Facebook as well as starting the petition.  They may respond favorably the first time, but they may not.  They don't have the best record for taking care of these sort of things.  It's our job to draw their attention to it big time.

Thank you.

To Whom It May Concern--

Misuse of Facebook to promote animal cruelty is nothing new.  The Facebook community standards take a position firmly against any content that involves violence or threats thereof.  As Facebook users, we take this seriously, and as such we ask that the "Pitbull execution live" event be taken down from the site and the proper authorities notified about this threat.

The event claims that a live, apparently "educational" pitbull execution is to be held on December 12th in Washington, D.C.  Potential viewers are invited to "watch how to kill and boil those beasts."  They may or may not mean boil literally, but either way the intent is simply horrific.

Even if the threat were not carried through, and no pitbulls "executed" (a lovely euphemism for slaughter), the event is a hub for anti-pitbull hate and discussions of violence against supposedly dangerous dog breeds.  The entire concept that pitbulls or other breeds used for fighting are somehow evil by nature is quite falacious, and simultaneously very dangerous.  It gives the sadistic and the ignorant an excuse to abuse innocent animals.

In short, Facebook should want to avoid lending any support to this event, its creators, or the ideas it represents.  Please remove this content from your website and notify the police.

Thank You for your time and attention.

Update #19 years ago
Thank you to all who signed. The page was reported to multiple agencies during the course of this petition. What the final result will be, I don't know, but in any case the event has been taken down from Facebook. The fight to protect pitbulls from hate and ignorance is far from over, but we have made a little step in the right direction. If I hear of any further developments in this bizarre tale, I will be sure to let you all know. In the meantime, keep up the good work.
