It Is Time for Congress to Affirm the Equal Rights Amendment to the Constitution

The first version of the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA), which would guarantee equal rights for all sexes, was proposed in 1923. Yet an entire century later, it still has not been affirmed to the Constitution. Luckily, Cori Bush and Kristin Gilibrand have plans to make it happen. We must put pressure on Congress to ensure this effort finally results in a victory for equality!

Sign now to demand Congress finally put the Equal Rights Amendment in the Constitution!

More than 85% of Americans support adding a provision about gender/sex equality in the Constitution. Congress even passed the ERA in 1972, but the amendment needed to be individually ratified by states. Since 2000, 38 states have ratified the ERA -- enough to make the ERA official! But Republicans are trying to sabotage the efforts, arguing that since states didn't meet the original deadline, the ERA isn't technically able to be affirmed to the Constitution. We can't let the party of misogynists win.

We need the ERA more than ever. The amendment could help ensure everyone has access to abortion and reproductive care, especially after the terrifying Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization decision to overturn Roe v. Wade last year.

Sign the petition to tell Congress: we can't wait any longer for equality! We demand the ERA be affirmed now!
