Demand justice for more than 700 koalas secretly culled in Australia to avoid public outrage

It's just been revealed that almost 700 koalas were secretly culled in Cape Otway, Victoria in 2013 and 2014.

The culled koalas were starving due to overpopulation. The cull was seen as the 'humane' solution by the government who made sure environmental groups and the community were kept in the dark to avoid any backlash.

Conservationists are outraged that the situation was allowed to get the point where koalas were starving and that more was not done to intervene earlier, such as tree planting, relocation and sterilization.

Koalas already face so many challenges for their survival – including loss of habitat, disease, dog attacks, bushfires and road hits from cars and trucks.

To cull so many koalas due to government mismanagement is a national disgrace – it's no wonder the government kept it a secret!

We ask that a full investigation into the mismanagement of the Cape Otway population is carried out and those responsible for this tragedy are held to account.

We also ask that a koala management plan is put in place to ensure this never happens again.
