Demand a tightening up of consumer protection and give customers the same rights as business

Customers are being robbed by business: the lies and dirty tricks. If a customer lies they are penalised but if a business lies no action is taken or, at most, given a slap on the wrist. The Financial Ombudsman Service is demonstrably anti-customer by taking no account of losses suffered.

If a contract is between two parties, why can only one make changes? Also, why can't customers have their own Terms and Conditions and why can they not record important phone calls. In too many cases calls can be "lost" when they do not serve the companies interest, again to the detriment of the customer.

At present businesses have all the rights, enshrined in law, and the customer is left to take the consequences even when the business acts illegally which is another point the Ombudsman seems to ignore. Customers have the right to accurate information delivered in a timely fashion and, where there is a compliant, to be treated with dignity and respect; not ignored.

In addition to the lies some businesses are trying to change the English language, while others tell customers when a contract ends then change their mind and try to add extra time and therefore demand extra money.

These issues have the potential to affect everyone in the country, irrespective of the country, to their possible cost, so for the reasons stated this petitioner would ask everyone to sign so that the Government would be forced to take action to protect us all.

Everyone who signs could save themselves thousands, so ask your family and friends to sign as well. Also contact your government representative with your concerns. People work hard for what they have, so what right does business have to take it away for no reason other than to increase the bottom line?
