Is Everything You Think Is Private Really Private?

Imagine finding out that someone has been supervising every search that you have ever made online. However, wouldn’t it seem fairer to know what is private and what is not? The United States government and other organizations have been blamed for overusing their privileges to supervise what we view online. For example, according to Dell Cameron, writer of, Yes, the NSA Can Spy on Every US Citizen, both the media and the public were shocked by the news that the NSA had such broad digital surveillance capabilities. The public is not informed or educated enough to realize how this issue may affect them. Although internet surveillance helps protect people from threats and dangerous terrorist-related attacks, people have the right to their own privacy, and many of the internet-related acts by the government are unknown by the general public; therefore, the U.S. government needs to reform current rules and regulations to allow more of a “balance between privacy and security” (Ohm, 1599).
