Stop the Closure of Schools in Queensland

We ask the Queensland Government, specifically the Premier and Education Minister to reconsider closing primary and secondary schools in Queensland.
Closing schools, particularly in the middle of the school year, is disruptive and counter-productive.

All schools have variations in numbers, they have periods of low enrolment and periods of high enrolment. If these schools are sold off, and the land sold to build houses, where are the children from those houses going to go?  This is an extremely short-sighted move.  In addition to this, many of these schools have had substatial investment in infrastructure recently (some are in progress currently) and spending millions of dollars on schools only to close them literally at the same time seems utterly ridiculous.

Some of these schools are small, but, are specialised, or cater to 'different' students. For example, schools which accept children who are LGBT, schools who make them feel safe because they ARE small schools.

Some of these schools have special education Units, the closure of which will cause extreme distress to those students if they are forced to uproot from the school they have come to know.

PLEASE SIGN AND HELP US keep our schools. Even if this doesn't personally affect you - please still sign because next time it might be your school, or affect your family or friends.

Please, Mr Newman, Mr Langbroek and all the other members of the Queensland Legislature - PLEASE don't disrupt our children's education.

We love our schools and want to keep them.

Dear Mr Newman and Mr Langbroek,

We, the undersigned, are petitioning you to ask that you do not close schools in Queensland.

Closing these schools will have far reaching impact on the students - some of these schools have Special Education Units, which will cause stress and distress to those students. Some of these schools have recently been upgraded with huge infrastructure investment, only to now be threatened with closure. Some of these schools cater for small communities, but, do so with immense care and do so even though many of their students are not standard, or mainstream, type students.

Whether that means they are recent immigrants, Indigenous students, Foreign students, or LGBT students, they thrive in the smaller community these schools offer and closing the schools to lump these children in with large school communities means a loss of individual care and a loss of safety or the feeling of safety for these students.

Please reconsider these closures.

Thank you.
