An English bulldog pup, who was briefly in the possession of a doggy daycare in San Marcos,
Calif., is missing after a man who claimed to be his owner walked out of the business
with the pup in his arms, reported Friday's ABC 10 News.
The strange incident took place at Dogtopia on Wednesday evening, on March 19.
The five-month-old pup, named "Schroeder," was technically not in the official care of the dog daycare facility;
someone who found Schroeder running loose dropped the pup off at the daycare center.
Not far from the daycare center is a storage facility where Schroeder lives with his family -
the pup had managed to squeeze beneath the fence that surrounds the storage business
and whoever found him opted to drop him at the nearby dog daycare center.
Shortly thereafter, near the facility's closing time, a man came into Dogtopia
and told the manager that the puppy was his.
Schroeder was released to the stranger and today, his whereabouts are unknown.
Schroeder's family is hoping that someone will recognize the man who carried their pup out of the building.

Dogtopia left a statement on the ABC News 10 Facebook page about this incident:
At Dogtopia of San Marcos, our first and foremost priority is always the wellbeing and safety of dogs.
We support all of our employees and know our manager acted in what she felt was the best interest of the dog,
who was unknown to us and not a Dogtopia client. We continue to provide as much information
as we can to assist in the police investigation. Some additional details are at play,
which are not related to Dogtopia, and at this time, we want to let the police do their job
and cannot speculate or comment further. Thank you."

A $1,000 reward is offered for information which leads to the safe return of this puppy.
Even tho the dog was not in official care of the dog daycare facility,
they should have known better than surrendering a dog to the first man who came in asking for it.
This is more then a honest mistake and we strongly suggest
that in a future you check for dog's ownership BEFORE surrendering the dog.
