Insist Congress End the War on Charlotte's Web (Cannabis Oil)

Cannabis oil, also known as Charlotte’s Web, is sought out by many parents of children with epilepsy because of its potential life-saving properties. But even though this low-THC oil doesn’t make you high, the federal government is still waging war on marijuana - in any form.

According to Wikipedia and CNN, Charlotte’s Web was named for a little girl who suffered from a severe, treatment-resistant form of epilepsy. But after Charlotte Figi’s parents began treating her with the high-CBD marijuana extract, her life-threatening and debilitating seizures went from 300 a week down to a manageable four per month.

Since then, parents all over the US have lobbied for new legislation, moved out of state and even faced jail sentences to treat their kids with CBD oil, as in the case of the Brown family from Minnesota. Angela Brown wrote a petition telling how she was labeled a criminal for giving the oil to her brain-injured son in Minnesota.

Even though Minnesota and other states finally legalized Charlotte’s Web, some are afraid of federal retaliation because so far federal legislation has died in committee.

Sitting now in the Committee on Energy and Commerce’s Subcommittee on Health, H.R. 1635, introduced by (Rep. PA) Scott Perry, could change all this if the chairman will just allow the bill to be heard. Insist Chairman Joe Pitts put an end to this war on Charlotte’s Web at once.

We, the undersigned, say this war on Charlotte’s Web must end at once.

Not only is low-THC cannabis oil known to reduce debilitating and life-threatening seizures in many suffering children and adults, there is also convincing antidotal evidence that it is helpful in alleviating other serious health conditions including glaucoma, HIV/AIDS, cancer, muscle spasms, severe pain and nausea and dramatic weight loss. This evidence, publicized by many sources, is no doubt the basis for Colorado's law permitting the use of medical cannabis for these conditions, reported by Wikipedia.

Complaints that most of the evidence of CBD’s healing powers are antidotal don't justify failing to support its use considering the reluctance of scientists to conduct reliable studies on the oil.

Instead, according to the LA Times, and other sources, the government funded at least one study on synthetic marijuana that led to production of a very dangerous recreational substance often known as fake weed, spice and K2.

Further supporting federal legalization of Charlotte’s Web are reports of so many war veterans suffering the debilitating effects of traumatic brain injury and PTSD who are getting relief from the low and high-THC versions of marijuana. Washington State has recently added these conditions to its list of those that qualify for use of medical marijuana.
Since psychotropic drugs like benzodiazepines are being strongly discouraged for treatment of PTSD and TBI because they are highly addictive and can cause seizures during withdrawal and even more brain injury, it makes no sense whatsoever to deprive both America’s veterans and its children of the potential life-saving benefits of all forms of marijuana. Certainly there can be no excuse whatsoever to keep waging this war on the very low-THC healing oil known as Charlotte’s Web.

Allowing another Charlotte's Web bill to die in committee will only lead to more deaths and misery for many Americans.
We request that Chairman Pitts put H.R.1635 - Charlotte's Web Medical Access Act of 2015 - before the House to be heard without further delay.

Thanks for your time.
