DEMAND "FIT" FOOD, SANITARY NAPKINS FOR U.S. PRISONERS!

  • by: Marsha Eddy
  • recipient: Get our CONGRESSMEN to STOP INHUMANE TREATMENT in U.S. PRISONS!!

Despite what the media wants us to believe, inmates in U.S. prisons are treated worse than POWs! Institutions routinely serve FOOD "UNFIT" for HUMANS, while others REFUSE to PROVIDE SANITARY NAPKINS, TAMPONS and even UNDERWEAR to women inmates!

Serving FOOD NOT MEANT FOR HUMANS is widespread practice. One observer described meat in the kitchen of one Florida prison bearing this USDA warning: "NOT for HUMAN CONSUMPTION!Yet it's cheaper than "edible" meat, and the price difference remains in the pockets of contractors hired to oversee prisons and provide food services!

Lower, cheaper grades of meat, however, contain animal organs, which are DANGEROUS TO HUMANS and usually reserved for animal food and feeds. These also often contain micro-organisms known to cause illness and disease, and inmates are becoming sick with such painful, dangerous gastronomic conditions as CHRONE'S DISEASE from eating meat in prison messes, reported at least one prison-affiliated doctor.

This is complicated by the almost complete absence of FRESH FRUIT in prison diets - again because it SAVES MONEY and BECOMES PROFIT to contractors and administrators!

Most prisoners eventually re-enter society to work, but many are "unfit" for various employment, Ithey can work at all, because of years on poor prison diets! Taxpayers then have to continue to pay to care for these now-former inmates in the form of costly medical care!

Another unhealtly - and disgusting - practice is to NOT supply females SANITARY NAPKINS, TAMPONS or even A CHANGE OF UNDERWEAR! One inmate described washing her one pair of panties each night for clean ones the next day ... for nearly a YEAR!

"Women are expected to buy these in expensive jail commissaries, but if you don't have money - you don't get 'em! Toilet paper is even rationed so we can't use it during menstruation," cited a woman prisoner.

Per capita the U.S. IMPRISONS MORE CITIZENS than ANY other country! It's"BIG BUSINESS" with HUGE PROFITS! And prisoners - still U.S. CITIZENS - bear the worst brunt in this largely ignored and poorly overseen MELEE FOR PROFIT!

DEMAND TODAY that your STATE'S CONGRESSMEN INVESTIGATEand STOP - BARBARIC TREATMENT in U.S. PRISONS!

Update #28 years ago
Those in U.S. prisons are the "forgotten," treated as less-than-human. But they are still our mothers, siblings, our children, and STILL Americans.
Incarceration is HUGE biz in the U.S., and there's motivation to build MORE prisons ... HUGE PROFITS!
Too much to not provide inmates with at least the most BASIC of human needs! It's simple greed that's the problem - your signature is the "fix." PLEASE, read, sign, then share my petition. Thank you!

The incarcerated in U.S. prisons are the "forgotten," largely ignored by most of us. So it's easy for many to be treated as less-than-buman by and uncaring public and profit-motivaged systems.
