A gay couple from Dallas, Texas was arrested for protesting Texas' ban on same-sex marriage. The couple has been charged with criminal trespass, a class B misdemeanor.
Mark "Major" Jiminez and Beau Chandler went to file a marriage license they knew they wouldn't get -- after being denied they handcuffed themselves together and sat down on the office floor.
The couple got engaged last spring and thought about going to another state to get married, but knew that it wouldn't be recognized when they got home. They wanted to make a statement about equality and decided the day after the 4th of July would be the best time for that.
Please tell the Dallas Police Department to drop the charges against Jiminez and Chandler and to show their support for marriage equality in Texas!
I am writing to you today to ask that you all please drop the trespassing charges against Mark "Major" Jiminez and Beau Chandler who were arrested for protesting against Texas' ban on gay marriage.
It is not fair nor is it right for LGBT couples to be discriminated against, and this couple was just trying to make a statement about equality.
Thank you for your time.
