Say NO to horse-drawn carriages in Las Vegas!

  • by: Mike Korn
  • recipient: Las Vegas (NV) City Council

UPDATE: On April 16th, 2014, the Las Vegas City Council voted 4-3 in favor of allowing horse-drawn carriages to operate. This petition, along with ALL of your signatures was forwarded to Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman as well as each council member. Nearly all of the recipients, including Mayor Goodman acknowledged reciept and some provided a brief response. I thanked each and every member for taking the time to review this matter, and stressed that any and all requirements pertaining to the welfare of these horses be strictly monitored and enforced. On a final and somewhat positive note, Mayor Goodman did vote against this measure and added to the language that this matter be reviewed in 12 months. Thank you to all who signed this petition!

The movement is NOT over however. These businesses still need to obtain several operating licenses. Please consider adding your signature to this open petition created by Nevada Voters 4 Animals

The Las Vegas City Council is scheduled to vote on approved routes in downtown for horse-drawn carriages. Although this practice is inhumane in and of itself, the Las Vegas climate will be extra harsh on these animals. Read the press release below for more info:

Dear Las Vegas City Council members:

Horse-drawn carriage rides have proven to be an inhumane practice. Even in New York City where these rides have been around for over a century, the subject is currently under review for a possible moratorium. The Las Vegas climate will be extra harsh on these animals and we believe you must vote NO on moving foward with this matter.

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

Voters Concerned for the Welfare of Animals
