A PLEA FOR THE COURTS TO HAVE MERCY ON DUANE'S HEALTH

Duane D. Slaughter was 38 years old in 2007 when he received a life-saving bilateral (double) lung transplant. He has never smoked tobacco and it is questionable as to rather his failing lungs resulted from many dedicated years in the automotive industry. After over 16 hours of grueling surgery, for which he had to be resuscitated more than once, his transplant by his dedicated medical team was a success. His dedication to his health and recovery proved to be an inspirational example to other transplantees.

In 2011 Duane was incarcerated and served 3+ years in Michigan's prison system for circumstances that are questionable. During his incarceration, his record has since proven him to be an outstanding example to others. He has dedicated himself to helping men from all nationalities and walks of life to better themselves through substance abuse counseling as well as tutoring and encouraging them to receive their GED’s. He has fulfilled his obligation to society. As a result of his outstanding record & resounding support from family, friends and the community, he has undisputedly been approved for parole for September of 2014.

Unfortunately, since his untimely incarceration, his health has rapidly declined. The physicians and transplant team of the Henry Ford Health system are leading a plea for an early release of Duane so that they can monitor and provide the necessary, life-saving medical care to prevent the further decline of his health and preserve the medical investment in Duane. A few months can save his life. Currently, his prognosis is poor and if he is not released soon to receive continued care from the lung specialist of Henry Ford Health Systems, his decline may ultimately result in the need for a second lung transplant!

His parole has been granted. This petition is for an earlier release by a few months that could potentially save his life.
