Toxic Weedkiller Found in Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream: Take Action!

  • recipient: Ben & Jerry's

Who doesn’t love a delicious ice cream on a hot summer day? When ice cream lovers are choosing from all those delightful flavors, the last thing they might expect is a dose of the harmful pesticide known as glyphosate — but that’s exactly what they might be getting.

The Organic Consumer’s Association (OCA) sent out Ben & Jerry’s ice cream samples to an independent laboratory for testing. Ten out of 11 ice cream samples tested positive for glyphosate, the key ingredient in Monsanto’s herbicide known as Roundup.

Demand that Ben & Jerry's publicly commit to removing glyphosate from their sourced foods and that they support efforts to convince the EPA to ban it.

Roundup contains a chemical called glyphosate, which has been linked to a growing list of cancers, liver and kidney impairment, and hormonal disorders. The FDA has done little to regulate glyphosate in our foods. Yet, even in small doses, the chemical can cause serious harm to humans, animals, and the environment.

According to research published in the International Journal of Cancer there is a significant link between non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and glyphosate exposure. Other research published in the journal Occupational and Environmental Medicine strengthens the link between cancer of the lymphatic system and the herbicide. New research also confirmed earlier studies that showed glyphosate can cause changes to liver or kidney function in humans.

Reports show that exposure to the herbicide has been linked to many forms of cancer in humans, including: cancers of the adrenal glands, bladder, brain, heart, lungs, lymphatic system, pituitary gland, prostate, salivary glands, skin, and thyroid gland. In a new study in the medical journal Chemosphere, researchers found that glyphosate also caused excessively high fish mortality.

Demand that Ben & Jerry's publicly commit to removing glyphosate from their sourced foods and that they support efforts to convince the EPA to ban it.
