Georgia: Strike Down Your "Guns Everywhere" Law!

Last Wednesday, Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal signed a bill into law that would allow those with a concealed carry permit to take guns into bars, churches, school zones, government buildings and certain parts of airports. The bill, called the Safe Carry Protection Act, will go into effect on July 1st.

Concealed carry supporters have a point that responsible, trained gun owners can protect themselves and save lives by protecting against a rogue shooter. Even so, this bill goes too far in the other direction and leaves too many loose ends. For one thing, guns and alcohol are a bad mix, and an otherwise responsible gun owner could become dangerous under the influence. For another thing, allowing guns in airports would gum up security lines and create opportunity for terrorists to intercept weapons.

The implications of this new law need to be considered more carefully to create a better balance between personal protection and public safety. Please sign the petition to urge Georgia to reconsider their "Guns Everywhere" law!
