Texas: Stop Executions When the Cases are Flawed!

Next week, Kimberly McCarthy will become the 500th person put to death by the state of Texas since 1976. Although she was convicted of murdering her elderly neighbour, it is clear that the judicial process that brought McCarthy to death row is deeply flawed.

There is evidence that the jury at McCarthy's original trial in 2002 was rigged through blatant racial discrimination. Dallas County, where the trial was held, is 69% white and 23% black. Yet among the 13 men and women selected to form McCarthy's jury, only one was black.

McCarthy’s case is not an anomaly - in 2005, an investigation by the Dallas Morning News found that prosecutors were still excluding eligible blacks from juries at more than twice the rate of eligible whites.

The system is broken. Sign the petition and demand that Texas stop executions when the cases are flawed.
