Ensure Officer Is Held Accountable For Dog Left In Hot Car

This is a multiple asking petition because it has come to light that a police dog died as a result of an officer allegedly forgetting the animal in the back of his car in extreme warm weather. We as the public often hear of the dangers of leaving our pets (and children in a car in extreme temperatures, hot or cold. It is sad that this very thing happened to an officer of the law.

Currently there are no laws in Alabama that prohibits leaving an animal in a hot car, but there certain should be. The officer in question who lost his dog has not been held accountable for the ill decision to leave the animal in a hot car. The dog named Officer Mason was three years old and the owner/officer allegedly forgot the dog in the back seat of the car after an earlier hurricane preparation event. Officers need to be role models for the community.

Through this petition, we are urging the Police Chief to make this officer held accountable through short-term suspension and unpaid administrative leave. You can help in this effort by signing and sharing in the name of Officer Mason who later died at his veterinary clinic.

Police Chief Delmore – We are encouraging you to make the officer held accountable for leaving his dog partner in the back of a hot car unattended, leading to its demise. This is such a crucial issue that the public is often reminded about; yet an officer of the law is allegedly guilty of such a fatal act. Not only should there be laws throughout the state of Alabama regarding leaving pets in cars, this particular officer needs to be held accountable through an unpaid administrative leave. Be a model for the community and those you protect, exemplifying how serious this is and should not be tolerated.
