Singapore: Don't Jail People for Social Media Posts!

In June 2016, Singapore officials imprisoned a 17-year-old blogger for social media posts that conveyed "wounding religious feelings." This follows a trend of increasing speech restrictions that escalated in the past year.

Earlier in 2016, police investigated activists Roy Ngerng and Teo Soh Lung for posting their personal political views on Facebook. They searched the men's homes, seized computers and phones and interrogated them for hours. Though the activists posted their views during a "cooling off" period of political campaigning, the law exempts posting personal political views from the van.

Singapore's authoritarian speech restrictions are being enforced vaguely and randomly. Activists should not have to live in fear of being harassed and arrested for posting nonviolent speech online. Please sign the petition to urge Singapore to stop punishing activists and bloggers for their dissenting views!

I am concerned with the increasing speech restrictions in Singapore.

I believe activists should not have to live in fear of being harassed and arrested for posting nonviolent speech online. I respectfully urge you to stop punishing activists and bloggers for their dissenting views. Thank you for taking the time to read and consider this petition.
