We call on you to save the home and lives of 1,200 children

  • by: Carol & Noel
  • recipient: Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh

The proposed confiscation of 5 acres of land from Care & Share for the extension of the Gannavaram airport poses a vital threat to the survival of the NGO. Care & Share is home to 1,200 children and on this land it has the farms that feed the children, part of its schools, and 5 small factories which produce clothing, sandals and notebooks, which are used from the children and are an important source of income for the institution. Pls help us raise awareness and ask the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh to drop the plan of confiscating this precious land.

IN DANGER OF LOSING OUR HOME

DADDY’S HOME AND THE PROPOSED EXPANSION OF THE VIJAYAWADA AIRPORT

Daddy’s Home, a Childrens’ village, for street kids, run-aways, destitute children, orphans, HIV+ kids, physically challenged children and abandoned babies is run by the Care & Share Charitable Trust.   Started in 1999 at Buddavaram village in the vicinity of the Vijayawada airport it has sheltered hundreds of children whom nobody wanted and who had no place to go to.  It is presently home to 500 girls and boys between the ages of 0 to 18 years.

Daddy’s Home consists of 10 buildings housing the boys and girls, a Babies’ Home, a Cafeteria and Kitchen, Dispensary and Dental Clinic, Laundry, Store, Hair-cutting saloon, School Buildings, Gymnasium, Prayer Hall, Farm, Playgrounds and a Skating Rink.   All this built at great cost and with the help of many donors from abroad.

A full-fledged Government recognised English medium school – Care & Share English Medium School - caters to the children on the campus but is also open to the children from the nearby villages free of cost.  There are presently 900 children on the rolls.

On the campus there is also a Farm with a 100 cows and buffaloes supplying fresh milk for the children, a poultry for eggs, piggery, goats, fish tanks and several garden plots where we grow our own vegetables.

To take care of the needs of the children and to support the Home we also have several Production Units on the campus: a Tailoring Unit for stitching uniforms and clothes for the children, a Footwear Unit for making sandals and slippers, a Bag Unit for school bags and a Book Binding Unit for note books for the school children.

At Daddy’s Home we do much more than rescue, rehabilitate, shelter, feed, treat, and educate children.  We allow them to be kids again and to live in a clean, caring environment where we give them attention and love typical of a family.  Giving children happiness, security, and a sense of belonging represents as much of a priority as their academic and professional development.

The Vijayawada airport already has more than 500 acres of land and does not need the land of Daddy’s Home to improve its facilities.

Please don’t take away our Home.
