Demand an end to racial, ethnic, and class discrimination in Rockford!

The City of Rockford Community & Economic Development Department offers public grants to assist low-income residents with the purchase and/or rehabilitation of a home. Yet, large sections of the city--particularly, those neighborhoods most in need--are being deliberately excluded.

While it may be a coincidence that these areas are mostly populated with low-income non-white residents, the disparity between those residents who rent versus those who own a home is at its most severe.

We the People demand fair access to this funding, which has been provided in part by the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development for the purpose of assisting low-income families, rehabilitating dilapidated neighborhoods, and restoring communities.
Update #26 years ago
The City of Rockford plans to demolish over 100 houses in the excluded areas over the next five years, with the goal of "deconcentrating" minorities and the impoverished. The Community Economic & Development Department has NOT provided a clear or concise plan to assist those who are displaced by this blatant "redlining" and inevitable gentrification. Please sign this petition and let them know that THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE.

Thank you all for signing this petition. We will be making more steps toward collecting signatures and interfacing with the community over the next month, in preparation for the next set of public hearings on this matter.
