How Many Kids Need to Die? We Need Better Gun Control NOW.

Today 27 innocent civilians, including 18 children - mostly Kindergartners - were killed senselessly by an adult with two guns. These children were dropped off by their parents at their elementary school, two weeks before the Holiday Break.  These kids should have been safe.

On Tuesday, a youth sports coach and a hospice nurse were shot to death while doing their holiday shopping at a community shopping mall outside of Portland, Ore. by a man they did not know. They should have been safe.

On July 20, 2012, a heavily-armed man entered a movie theater in suburban Denver early Friday where families, kids and couples had gathered for a premier. He opened fire, killing 12 people and injuring 50 others, among them children.

It's time for our lawmakers to stand up to the Gun lobby, the NRA, and those who preach about "gun rights," and to enact a ban on automatic and semi-automatic weapons. It's time to strengthen gun control laws, to hold accountable those who don't uphold them, and to take action to protect the most precious and innocent members of our society.

It's time to be responsible.

The opposition will plead a 'Right to Bear Arms."

I'd like to plead the "Right of 18 Kindergarten Children to live to see their fifth birthday."

Plead with me. Stand up, Congress. Stand Up, President Obama.

Dear President Obama, Senators and Representatives,

Today your constituents across the nation are urging you to take action and improve gun control in our nation. Today, we are telling you that 18 Kindergartners did not have to die needlessly today. Today, we are imploring you to immediately create, sign and enact legislation outlawing the possession of automatic and semi-automatic weapons, to strengthen gun control, and to hold accountable retailers and owners who act irresponsibly with their weapons.

More than two dozen people, mostly kindergartners - 4 and 5-year-olds - were shot and killed at a Newtown, Conn., elementary school this morning by an adult male.

Tuesday, December 12, a 22 year old man, armed with an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle, murdered two innocent shoppers and killed himself on a shooting rampage inside a busy Portland shopping mall.  A federal ban on manufacturing and importing the AR-15 and similar rifles was passed in 1994 by the Clinton administration, but was allowed to expire in 2004. Had you kept that ban in place, three families would not be mourning their loved ones this Christmas.

* The AR-15 is the same type of semi-automatic assault rifle used in the Aurora, Colo., movie theater rampage this summer by James Holmes, a mentally unbalanced graduate student, who murdered 17 movie-goers and injured more than 70.  Had President Clinton's ban been extended, 17 families would celebrate this holiday with their lost loved ones.

President Obama, you said you supported gun control during your campaign. As a father, as an American, and as a leader, it's time to make a difference. Members of Congress. This isn't about partisanship, and should you make it that way, you have failed to serve your nation, your constituents, your children and grandchildren.

Stand up, lawmakers. Do something. Don't stand idly by as 18 families mourn their lost babies today. Take action. The time is now.
