11/17/15 UPDATE....

A Port St. Lucie Judge ruled today to RELEASE the dogs to their owner, Stephanie.  THE DOGS ARE NOW HOME!  The judge had written that the city failed to provide a hearing for the dogs within 21 days.  The city's continued restraint of her dogs is without authority and in violation of her constitutional rights.  She is entitled to immediate possession of the dogs.

THANK YOU EVERYONE for being their voice by signing and sharing this petition!  Your support is greatly appreciated!

PLEASE HELP these beautiful dogs in Port St. Lucie, Florida who are on DEATH ROW for BARKING!
Princess, a whippet mix, and Duke, a 6 month old Puppy were taken from their owners for being loose in front of their house while their owner was near them working in the garage. The neighbor next door saw the dogs and walked on their property to tell the owners that they were loose and the dogs ran up to him and barked just as any other dog protecting their property would do. Animal Control Officer Lisa Brown saw this and considered the dogs actions "menacing". Three weeks later she came back to the dogs house and told their family that she had done an investigation and has now deemed them as dangerous. This was a first offense for the dogs but Officer Brown considered it a second offense. Two years prior, the family had a foster dog that escaped the gated back yard and animal control issued a citation for this dog. The family went to court and because the person who complained did not appear for the hearing, the citation was dropped. This foster dog no longer lives on the property. Officer Brown failed to research this case to see that it was indeed dismissed. In this city, PSL issues a citation on a HOUSEHOLD, not a particular dog. Therefore, officer Brown, without doing her due diligence, considered this incident on August 9th with Duke, a puppy who was not alive two years ago, and Princess who is two years old, a second offense and declared these dogs dangerous. For BARKING. ON THEIR OWN PROPERTY. Florida State Statue 767 does not consider a dog on their own property to be dangerous.
These dogs DID NOT BITE, they DID NOT TOUCH anyone.
The family and the dogs have a court hearing on October 26th 2015 to appeal this ridiculous determination of their dogs being dangerous. They have hired an attorney and the expenses will be thousands of dollars to defend their dogs.
Meanwhile, the dogs have been detained in the shelter for WEEKS without human contact. They are walked on catch poles and their family can only visit them once a week to view them through a fence while they are restrained on catch poles. Each week the family has noticed that the dogs are losing weight and have grown more depressed. The impoundment in the shelter alone has them on the edge of death.
We ask for you to sign this petition to spare their life. Please help to be their voice. Reach out to the following people to let them know how you feel.

UPDATE 10.24.15

The city of Port St. Lucie canceled the scheduled hearing for the Royal's on death row for barking. The attorney for the dogs and family was not provided a reason. The city is clearly now in violation of Florida laws in providing a hearing within 21 days. We will post an update if and when rescheduled. Please help to pay their legal fees if you can by going to the link below.
